Design

Let’s start with the design of this shoe! First off, Nike’s trainers come in men’s and women’s sizes and a range of colors. They are pretty bright too, which will increase your visibility in the dark and add a splash of color to your running gear! 

Nike’s ZoomX  Vaporfly features a mesh design, with a tongue and thick sole. The classic logo is integrated into the mesh too. While some customers don’t enjoy the appearance of the trainers, we think they look nice. They aren’t the most stylish,  sure, but they will get the job done!

The trainer features mesh on its upper that is different from its predecessor and offers increased flexibility than other trainers. It's also quite soft, adding to the comfort of the trainer. The mesh allows you to tailor the fit to your foot as it will move easily without rubbing or causing you any pain. 

The upper mesh is also incredibly breathable too, avoiding sweaty trainers after a long run! You won’t need to worry about having to spray your trainers or leave them outdoors for the smell to shift. Teamed with the mesh is a padded tongue, offering comfort across the top of your foot.

It’s worth noting that the tongue runs shorter than other trainers, sliding downwards on time. When it slides, you can feel the pressure of your laces on your foot, which some customers did find uncomfortable. 

The midsole and outsole are the same as the previous Vaporfly model, so if you enjoyed that, you are sure to enjoy these shoes! The prominent arch is still the same, which can cause the shoes to run a little narrow. We talk about the fit in greater detail below, so be sure to keep reading!

Overall, the structure of these trainers is rigid, thanks to the carbon plate, so you can expect durability while you run! As we mentioned earlier, the outsole and midsole have remained the same, and the Vaporfly Next remains a lightweight shoe. 

The sole itself is incredibly thick and fitted with foam that provides a comfortable fit you are sure to enjoy when running! The heels are incredibly responsive, too, offering a spring-loaded kick that you will appreciate when running. 

The outsole features thick rubber that is hard-wearing, and you won’t need to worry about running through these shoes! Yes, the thick white rubber isn’t to everyone's tastes, but comfort and endurance are often more important!

Fit 

Fit is another vital factor we have to consider when purchasing trainers. After all, no one wants a sloppy fit or blisters on their heels, do they? Nike’s ZoomX Vaporfly Next comes a little wide across the toe box. 

Compared to the narrow midsole, the toe box is wider compared to other models. It makes them a perfect option for those with wider feet! You might struggle a tad if you have narrower feet, and we would recommend you exploring other trainers. 

Aside from the wide fit, these trainers are true to size. Almost all customers noted that their usual size was the perfect fit, meaning you can purchase these shoes online without the usual, what size stress! If these are your first pair of running shoes, it might be best to pop into a store and try them on for size. Generally, you will only need the same size that you wear in other shoes.

What we did notice with the fit is that it was a little loose at times. We will go into more detail about this further, so let’s just touch on it briefly. The trainers can feel a little sloppy on your feet, and you need to tighten the laces a great deal for a secure fit. It took us a few wears to get to grips with this, and other customers noted this too. Be sure to give the laces a good tug and tighten when wearing the trainers to have a secure fit!

Comfort

We all need a comfortable trainer when running, don’t we? Thankfully, the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next is extremely comfortable. The trainers feature a high cushioned sole that is comfortable when you are walking or running. 

Providing the fit is right; you can expect a very comfortable fit! There’s 15% more foam in the ZoomX Vaporfly Next than previous models, offering more comfort and cushioned support. Just what you need when you are running long distances. 

The foam on the shoe’s sole is incredibly thick, offering a supportive and cushioned feel for your feet. The foam feels incredibly comfortable, and many customers praised the softness of the foam and the trainer in general.

As we mentioned earlier, you might notice some lace pressure if the tongue rolls down as you run, but few customers reported this issue. We also touched on the mid and outsole remaining the same on this trainer. It does mean that it runs slightly narrow here, making it a tight fit for wider feet. It can feel a little uncomfortable after a while, so we recommend trying these on before purchasing them. 

Overall though, these trainers are incredibly comfortable, providing you get the fit right and are prepared to pull your laces tight! 

Any problems?

Now, we know this sounds like a rave, and nothing in this world is perfect, so what's wrong with these shoes?

Well, the upper is a little sloppy, which isn’t the best when you are running! When running, users found that there wasn’t as much support as they would like. 

In particular, those with narrower feet found them a little loose too. Not what you want when you are running! It took customers a little while and some trial and error to secure a tight fit with the laces on these trainers, so be prepared to spend some time doing this. However, as we mentioned earlier, those with a wider foot should enjoy the extra room in the toe box.

How much?

The question on everyone’s lips is always, how much? Well, you’ll be pleased to know that these trainers are fairly reasonably priced! Yes, they aren’t the cheapest trainers Nike makes, but they aren’t the most expensive. For high-quality running trainers, we would put these in the mid-price point bracket. 

Now, before purchasing these trainers, we strongly recommend setting a budget for yourselves. Consider how often you will use these trainers, how long you want them to last, and how much you are willing to spend. There’s no point spending your money if the trainers are only going to be used once!
